Serie A: Napoli Must Seize the Day Against Torino

Napoli vs Torino

Napoli are back in the Serie A title race after they looked like they were out of it a few weeks ago. The Partenopei are level with Inter Milan with 71 points following the latter’s most recent loss against Bologna, and only a 13-goal difference separates these two sides.

Matchday 34 of the 2024-25 campaign could become a turning point for Napoli and Inter Milan. Inter Milan have a tricky game against a resurgent AS Roma team, and Napoli will host Torino at the Diego Maradona Stadium. Depending on this weekend’s results, we may see Antonio Conte’s side at the top of the Italian top-flight standings again.

However, Torino are not chopped liver against their hosts. Paolo Vanoli’s men aim to stay in the Top 10 and have only lost one of their last eight league matches.

Talking Points

McTominay has Napoli fans dreaming

Napoli drew level with Inter Milan by notching a timely 1-0 win against Monza last Sunday – their first win on the road for three months – as Scott McTominay was the hero again. The former Manchester United midfielder converted on a header in the 72nd minute after a lovely cross from Giacomo Raspadori, and Napoli took all three points after they held on.

McTominay already has nine Serie A goals, making this the most prolific debut season we’ve seen from a Napoli midfielder since Marek Hamsik 17 years ago. The 28-year-old is flourishing in Naples since he has fully embraced the team, the fans, and the culture.

Besides McTominay, Napoli still have other weapons in Romelu Lukaku, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Giacomo Raspadori, Matteo Politano, and David Neres, with 27 league goals and 19 assists combined this season. Anguissa and Raspadori could start this weekend after coming off the bench against Monza.

In other news, Napoli are “confident” of Alessandro Buongiorno’s recovery ahead of the Torino match. Buongiorno has missed the team’s last three Serie A matches due to an adductor injury, and his return couldn’t come soon enough since his replacement, Juan Jesus, is out for the rest of the season due to a thigh injury.

Adams can make history with Torino

Che Adams is also enjoying his debut Serie A season with Torino. The 28-year-old striker leads Il Toro in scoring with nine league goals and three assists and is on the cusp of making history this weekend.

Adams scored in the team’s 2-0 win against Udinese yesterday, snapping their three-game winless run. He now has 10 goals across all competitions this season, the same tally as fellow Scot Denis Law achieved during his year-long stay with Il Toro in 1961-62 before moving on to Manchester United. Law hit 10 goals in Italy at a slightly quicker rate than Adams, as it took him 28 games compared to 32 for the latter.

Vanja Milinkovic-Savic is another Torino player to watch since he is linked with a potential exit from the club this summer. The Serbian goalkeeper has 10 clean sheets this campaign.

History

Can Che Adams score against Napoli and lead them to a Serie A win?
Torino’s Che Adams fights for the ball with Napoli’s Alessandro Buongiorno during a Serie A match in December 2024

Napoli narrowly won 1-0 against Torino in their last league meeting in December 2024, as Scott McTominay scored the marginal goal in the 31st minute. The Partenopei have won six of their last eight games against Torino in Serie A (D1, L1) while keeping five clean sheets.

They are also unbeaten in 12 consecutive Serie A home games against Il Toro (W7, D5). However, Napoli have drawn four of their last seven home games against Torino, including a 1-1 result last March 2024.

Torino have won their last two of their last three games against teams starting the matchday in the Top 2 (L1) – the same number of wins they managed across their previous 33 such games in the competition (D9, L22).

Betting Tip

The Serie A 2025 odds have Napoli back at the top of the Italian top-flight standings after matchday 34. The Partenopei are 1.40 favourites to win this Sunday, whereas Il Toro are massive 7.10 underdogs, and a draw is at 4.05 in the 1X2 market.

Football fans shouldn’t expect too many Serie A 2025 highlights from this fixture, which favours Napoli. Besides our recommended bet, bettors can also go for alternatives like Under 2.25 at 2.08, Under 2.50 at 1.81, Under 2.75 at 1.58, and even Total Goal 0-1 at 2.86. Furthermore, a Correct Score of 1-0 in favour of the Partenopei – the result of the reverse fixture – should give you a decent payday of 5.10 your bet.
