Lando Norris is slowly pulling away in this year’s Formula 1 drivers’ championship after having won the last two events in Mexico and Sao Paulo. With three races left, the British driver will be keen to tack on more points to claim his first world championship at the expense of his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, who led for the most part earlier this term.
However, McLaren haven’t had much success in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. On the other hand, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had already won on this track, and he is lurking behind the Papaya duo, although he has to be nearly perfect in the last three races for a puncher’s chance to claim his fifth straight title.
Elsewhere, there’s an interesting midfield battle in the constructors’ championship, as the Racing Bulls, Aston Martin, Haas, and Kick Sauber are trying to catch up to the fifth-seeded Williams.

Can Norris seal the deal in Sin City?
Lando Norris bolstered his position at the top of the leaderboard, following his eventful weekend in Sao Paulo, where he won the Sprint and the main race. His tally now stands at 390, which is 24 points ahead of McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who has failed to win a podium in the last five races.

The maximum points available across the last three weekends is 83 points. Even if Norris were to win this weekend and Piastri fails to score, he won’t win the drivers’ championship in Las Vegas. The earliest that Norris could bring home the bacon is in the Qatar Sprint.
On the other hand, Piastri has shown signs of progress last time out compared to his performances over the previous weekends. If it weren’t for his debatable 10-second penalty, the Australian would’ve finished higher on the grid in Interlagos. More than anything, Piastri needs a clean weekend in Sin City to have a fighting chance.
Keep in mind that McLaren’s highest finish in Las Vegas (so far) is P6 from Norris last year.
Hadjar and Lawson keep the Racing Bulls in the hunt
The Racing Bulls also had an eventful weekend in Sao Paulo, as Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar finished in the points to keep the team in the hunt for P5 in the constructors’ championship.
Lawson finished seventh after using a one-stop strategy in Sunday’s 71-lap race. The New Zealand international ended up directly in front of Hadjar, who started fifth on the grid, as the Racing Bulls duo fended off the challenge of five other cars behind them.
The Red Bulls reduced the gap to Williams (111 points) to just 29 points, as Alex Albon (P11) and Carlos Sainz Jr. (13th) didn’t get a single point in Interlagos. The team also now sits 10 points ahead of seventh-seeded Aston Martin at the table.
However, the odds aren’t in RB’s favour, as Lawson, who finished P16, had a difficult time in Sin City last year, while Hadjar had never raced here in his career.
History
The Las Vegas Grand Prix is one of the newer races in the Formula 1 calendar. It was one of the league’s efforts to increase the sport’s popularity in the United States, alongside the Netflix series “Drive to Survive.” Given its success over the past two years, the event was renewed until 2027.
Max Verstappen won the inaugural edition in 2023, despite ceding pole position to Charles Leclerc in the qualifying. The Red Bull racer finished fifth on the grid a year later.
George Russell won last year’s edition after taking pole position and a steady drive throughout the main race. This was the fourth win in his Formula 1 career.
What are the odds?
The Las Vegas Grand Prix 2025 odds have Max Verstappen at the top of the pecking order, given his history on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit. However, his margin for error is not that big. The Dutchman is priced at 2.50 to take pole position and win the main race.
Lando Norris is pegged at 3.50 and 3.00 on Saturday and Sunday, while George Russell is at 3.50 and 6.00 on those days. Kimi Antonelli, Oscar Piastri, and Charles Leclerc are the distant challengers for podium spots at 8.00, 10.00, and 17.00, respectively.
As for the Racing Bulls, a second consecutive double-points finish is a distant possibility, with Isack Hadjar poised to finish ninth at 151.00 and Liam Lawson right behind him at 201.00.
